Drosophila Suzuki update july 2015 of Fruitculture

The presence of SWD in northern Italy is in strong increase, after hitting the final production of cherry is now passing on strawberry and blueberry; high temperatures of recent days have slowed spawning but the danger is still high.
It is recommended maximum attention to the control of adults in crops, as an alternative to the capture of mass or mesh nets thin it proposes the method previously described : click here

Spotted Wing Drosophila - Update May 2015

Spotted wing Drosophila - control system

These days we are watching the first eggs laid on cherry fruits early maturing, the potential inoculum of adults is very high, and the females have already mature eggs. For a good defense we have to isolate the cultivation with fine nets, better every single row; or use where there is the possibility of ceiling fans (image) at the distance of 15-20 meters from each 'other and 2 meters above the vegetation. This method serves to disturb the flight of SWD and consequently the deposition of the eggs on the fruits. Last choice is the 'use of pesticides with more or less satisfactory results and with considerable risk to consumers.

Droshophila Suzuli and grapes

With reference to a recent report by Nicola Mori - University of Padua held in S. Michele a / Adige on 09.01.2015 on the issue of damages by SWD in the fruit drying of grapes to produce wine Recioto Amarone etc. we want to point out that the solution could be nell'intallazione of ventilatoriin verticale.invece that horizontal position; this is because the SWD is very disturbed by the movement of air.

Drosophila Suzukii control

  • How do you save the production .....One day a friend organic producer called me on the phone and asks me what I can do to save his strawberry production re-bloom from SWD , then I asked him how serious the damage and he replies pretty serious . At this point I ask him again if he has the chance to have electricity in the camp and he replies that can use the energy of the PV system . Without a moment's hesitation I propose to install the agitators of air above the rows of strawberry plants, said and done after a few days you could see a marked improvement in the appearance of the fruit , and after 8-10 days the problem had disappeared and the production at a distance of two months is still good and without having used insecticides of any kind.See you next good story.

SWD-Drosophila Suzukii update august 2013

Excellent results were obtained with the method of air agitators on strawberry. The plants subjected to treatment have not suffered damage and continue to produce normally.
The pressure of the flight of SWD is at its maximum and the crops most at risk are raspberry, strawberry and grapes.
